One of the things I really want to do more of in 2017 is read. Last year, i think if I made it through 3 books it was a lot. When I was younger, I used to read that many in a week! Sadly, silly things like housework and feeding my family and tending to the needs of the army of furballs had stolen most of my reading time. Still, I’m sure I can find half an hour a day to read, even if I hide somewhere the reps can’t find me during my lunch break.
I’m lucky to be part of a MASSIVE shared ebook library, So I’ve had a look through it and chosen five books I would like to read this year. In no particular order:
1. Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency – Douglas Adams
This one was recommended to me by a friend and is described by the author as “thumping good detective-ghost-horror-who dunnit-time travel-romantic-musical-comedy-epic.” Sounds pretty good to me! A TV adaptation of this was released last year, so I’d like to read this one soon, before we watch the series. There’s a sequel, Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul, which I would love to read too.
2. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies – Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith
Well isn’t this one just a no-brainer. I really enjoyed the movie, so quite looking forward to it. I have to admit, I haven’t read the zombie free version before. I haven’t actually read many of the classics. Maybe I should add one or two to to my list. Or not. *makes note to read classic novels in 2018*
3. Hell’s Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs – Hunter S Thompson
I don’t know about you, but I always have this long list of movies I MUST see, series I HAVE TO catch up on and books I REALLY should read? This is one of them, well, anything by Hunter S Thompson. It’s been on my list forever. I chose this one because of my Sons of Anarchy obsession. Really looking forward to it.
4. Coraline – Neil Gaiman
Another book that’s been on my list of things I really need to get around to. There’s so many of them, but I always seem to end up re-reading Harry Potter or binge watching something and never getting to that damn list. Well, 2017 is hopefully changing that. I love Neil Gaiman. LOVE. Very excited to read this one.
5. The Heroin Diaries – Nikki Sixx
I love rock star memoirs. I read Slash’s a few years back and I can’t believe he lived through all the insane things he did to his body. Crazy times! I’m hoping to get more of the same from this book.
So that’s the list of books I would like to start the year with, once I have finished reading So, Anyway… by John Cleese. It’s brilliantly funny so far and I’m really loving it. Cliff has rediscovered his love of online gaming so he is using the TV to play. This means (hopefully) less screen time and more reading for me.
What’s on your must read list for 2017? Have you read any of the books on my list already?
Thanks for reading!
