Five for Friday – Songs from my misspent youth

How many of you still listen to the same songs you did when you were a teenager. My playlist honestly hasn’t changed very much since 2006. What’s scary is that I’ve often heard songs that I listened to in the 90s referred to as classics, by adults! I can’t believe I’m that old already! Here’s some songs from my late teens/early 20s that still feature heavily on my playlist:

1. The Offspring – The Kids Aren’t Alright

Oh my word. I can’t actually believe this was released EIGHTEEN years ago!

2. Springbok Nude Girls – Blue Eyes

I can’t explain how much I loved the SA music scent in the late 90s. Many a night in dingy clubs watching amazing bands play. Oh what a crush I had on Arno Carstens.

3. Semisonic – Closing time

Everyone sing with me “I know who I want to take me home… I know who I want to take me home…I know who I want to take me home…take me home…

4. Wheatus – Teenage Dirtbag

I’m sure these guys made other music, and I should really check it out, but this is one of my very favourite happy mood tunes

5. Fountains of Wayne – Stacy’s Mom

My last entry in this list was going to be All American Rejects, but then YouTube reminded me of this little gem, which I have been listening to on repeat ever since. Another one going straight to the top of my happy music playlist.

What do you think of these songs? Do you still listen to music from your younger days or have you moved on? What would your top five be?
